Reconnaissance Robotic Vehicle

A Robotic Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) for detection and surveillance functions

Overview and Capability

The Reconnaissance Robotic Vehicle (R2V) is a small lightweight Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) designed to perform reconnaissance, search, detection, perimeter monitoring, chemical detections and reporting functions.

Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV)

Wireless Control via 802.11g
  • Reliable range of 500 meters under line-of-sight condition
  • Onboard front and rear view fixed IP addressable cameras
  • Onboard Pan-Tilt Zoom surveillance IP addressable camera
  • Continuous GPS location, bearing, and speed information displayed on the OCU
  • Two-way audio communications
  • Wireless monitoring of UGV battery condition and wireless signal strength
  • Average, non-stop drive time of 3 hours
  • Average loiter time of 7 hours
  • Vehicle speed of over 10 mph
  • Traverses 30-degree grade under full load
  • Recharging time of less than 2 hours
  • Automated image capture for creating panoramas
  • Multiple-use RS-232 remote sensor interface
    • i.e. ChemPro 100 Chemical Detector

Operator Control Unit (OCU)

  • Rugged and portable transit case
  • Battery powered, operating time of over 180 minutes
  • Daylight viewable color LCD display
  • Embedded recharging power supply for OCU & UGV
  • Graphical User Interface (GUI) of all UGV and OCU functions
  • Keyboard interface to UGV & OCU functions
  • Joystick interface for driving and pan-tilt camera control
  • Continuous GPS information of UGV and OCU locations
  • Customizable map area showing UGV and OCU locations and distances between them
  • Multi view display of all UGV camera information
  • Screen capture of images, stored and recalled for intel or to send out via email
  • Local display of multiple-use RS-232 remote sensor interface information
  • Network connectivity to forward system, GIS, video, and alarm data to viewing terminals on the local network or remote locations over the internet
  • Portable tripod mounted high gain onmi-directional antenna

Mullti-UGV Network

  • One OCU
  • Up to 4 UGV's
  • Multi-UGV network hopping of sensor and camera data
  • Extended range via multi-UGV network legs for non line-of-sight operations
  • OCU can view and control each UGV, one at a time
  • A remote sensor alarm situation from the ChemPro 100, etc. is displayed immediately, no matter which UGV is selected for operational control
  • Cameras from previously selected UGV can be used to aid driver in positioning the currently selected UGV
